Ó Cléirigh

Ó Cléirigh was the name of a learned family who were originally rulers of Uí Fiachrach Aidhne till expelled by their cousins, the Clan Ó Seachnasaigh (O'Shaughnessy). From the early 11th or 12th century they were based in Tír Conaill (modern-day Co. Donegal) where they served as poet-historians, scribes and secretary's to the Ó Domnaill dynasty, Kings of Tir Connaill. Famed members of the clan included:

• Lughaidh Ó Cléirigh, fl. 1595-1630
• Cú Crigcriche Ó Cléirigh, d. 1664
• Mícheál Ó Cléirigh, c.1590-1643, one of the Four Masters
