Cameron (Cam) Broten (born April 29, 1978) is a Canadian politician. He was elected to represent the constituency of Saskatoon Massey Place in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan in the 2007 provincial election. Former NDP Leader Lorne Calvert appointed Cam as the Official Opposition Critic for Advanced Education and Youth. In June 2009, new NDP Leader Dwain Lingenfelter expanded Cam's role by appointing him the Official Opposition Critic for Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration. Cam is also the Chair of the Saskatoon NDP Caucus and the Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee on Human Services, the Legislative Committee which examines matters related to health, social services, education, labour, and public safety and security.
Broten holds a Bachelor's Degree in International Studies from the University of Saskatchewan and a Master’s Degree in Political Science from Simon Fraser University. While earning his International Studies degree, he spent four months studying in Guatemala and living with a local family. During his time at SFU, he was employed as a teaching assistant in the political science department and also served as a facilitator with the British Columbia Citizens' Assembly on Electoral Reform. During university, Broten spent eight seasons as a tree planter. He has worked as a youth policy analyst with the Department of Culture, Youth and Recreation, a health policy manager with the Saskatchewan Medical Association, and served as an elected board member of the Saskatoon Co-op.
Broten and his wife, Ruth, live in the Saskatoon Massey Place constituency and are active in the community. His grandfather, Hans Broten, served in the Legislative Assembly in the 1960s under Tommy Douglas and Woodrow Lloyd.
