Christianity in Mauritania

Christianity is a small minority in Mauritania. There are about 4,500 Roman Catholics in Mauritania. The only diocese is the Diocese of Nouakchott. There are expatriate African churches in Mauritania. There is no important minority of Protestants in Mauritania.

Distribution of Christian literature and evangelizing of Muslims are prohibited. There hardly is printing and distribution of bibles. Oppression of Christians has increased recently. There are Christians, who are arrested due to their faith. Churches have been closed in 2006. Conversion from Islam can be punished with death. New religions cannot be registered.
