Dacia Literară, second edition

Dacia Literară was the first Romanian literary journal. Founded by Mihail Kogălniceanu and printed in Iaşi, it was short-lived—having lasted only from January to June 1840. Dacia Literară was a Romantic nationalist and liberal magazine, engendering a literary society.

In Dacia Literară the main article was Introduction (Introductie). In this article there are multiple ideas:

  • The Romanian literature was made of translations and imitations of foreign books and authors, which do not make an original literature. Kogălniceanu advises authors to be original and write their own creations, being inspired by the nature, history and folklore of Romania.
  • All the journals in Romania were about politics. Dacia Literară will be the first one about literature, with nothing about politics.
  • Also, only the creation will be analyzed and criticized, not the author.

This journal was the base of the original Romanian literature.
