Fomento is a municipality and city in the Sancti Spíritus Province of Cuba.
The municipality is divided into the barrios of Fomento, Güinia de Miranda and Jíquimas.[1]
It was founded in 1864.[1]

In 2004, the municipality of Fomento had a population of 33,528.[3] With a total area of 471 km² (181.9 sq mi),[2] it has a population density of 71.2/km² (184.4/sq mi).
Note: Güinia de Miranda does not belong to the municipality of Fomento. Güinia de Miranda belongs to the province of Villa Clara.
