Izegem is also known as the pekkerstad, borstelstad or schoenenstad . Throughout the city runs the river the Mandel and the canal canal Roeselare-Leie. Izegem used to be famous for its shoe- and brush-making. Today there are only a few factories left, but the city houses a shoe- and brush museum.
