Jiujiang (Chinese: 九江; pinyin: Jiǔjiāng) , formerly called Kiukiang, is a prefecture-level city located on the southern shores of the Yangtze River in northwest Jiangxi Province, China. It is the second largest city in Jiangxi province[citation needed], the largest one being Nanchang. "Jiujiang" literally means "nine rivers".
The city suffered only slight damage in the 2005 Ruichang earthquake, but there were several deaths reported in outlying areas.
