The station went on the air as KIOQ-FM on 1980-07-21. On 1985-03-01, the station changed its call sign to the current KIBS.[2]

Actual sign-on date for KIOQ was November, 1974. Original owner was Roy Mayhugh. Roy brought in a partner, Los Angeles DJ Jay Stevens, in 1975.
