Lion Grove Garden

The Lion Grove Garden (simplified Chinese: 狮子林; traditional Chinese: ; pinyin: Shi Zi Lin Yuán) located in Suzhou City, of Jiangsu Province of China is famous for the large and labyrinthine grotto of taihu rock at the garden's center. The name of the garden derieves from the shape of these rocks which are said to resemble lions. Currently, the Lion Grove Garden is one of the most popular spots for tourists in Suzhou.

The Lion Grove Garden was built in 1342 CE during the Yuan Dynasty by a Zen Buddhist monk, Tianru in memory of the Abbot Zhongfeng. At that time the garden was part of a monestary.[1]

- 22 buildings of varied types,
- 25 tablets and plate aux,
- 71 stelae inscribed with the famous Calligraphy Collection of the Listening to Rain Tower
- 23 brick carvings
- 5 carved wooden screens
- 13 valuable old trees (Gingko biloba and Pinus bungeana)
