Pim Balkestein (born 29 April 1987) is a Dutch professional footballer who currently plays for English Championship club Ipswich Town, as a central-defender. He can also play at left-back. He is the son of ex-footballer Luuk Balkestein.

Balkestein came through the ranks at Dutch football club, SC Heerenveen. He never mad a first team appearance for the club, but during his time there, he was once named on stand-by for the Dutch Under-21's team.[1]

[edit] Ipswich Town

Balkestein joined Ipswich on trial at the end of the 2007–08 season after impressing the Ipswich manager at the time, Jim Magilton. Whist on trial, Balkestein appeared in a friendly match against Tottenham Hotspur.[2] On 16 June 2008 Balkestein signed a two year contract with the option of a third year, a fee of £180,000 was paid to former club SC Heerenveen as compensation.[3] He made his debut versus Preston North End on 9 August 2008.

On tuesday 21 april 2009 Pim Balkestein was named 'Most Improved (Ipswich Town-)Player of the Year'. This decision was made by the Town coaching staff.
