Radu Vasile (born 10 October 1942, Drăgăşani) is a Romanian politician, historian and poet.
Education and Professional Activity
• 1967 - Graduate, with exceptional results, of the Faculty of History - University of Bucharest. For political reasons (his father having been a political prisoner, a lawyer, deceased in 1986) he was barred access to higher education immediately after graduating school
• 1971 - Teaching assistant at Faculty of Economic History at Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies
• 1977 - Ph.D. in economic doctrines
• 1978 - Lecturer at the same faculty
• After 1989 - Elected (with students support) Vice Dean of Faculty of Commerce at Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies, till 1992
• After 1990 - Refresher studies in European Integration (Salonic and Munchen)
• From 1994 - University Professor Degree
Originally a member of the National Peasants' Party, Vasile served as the Prime Minister of Romania between April 17, 1998 and December 13, 1999, and was notably confronted with the last Mineriad (February 1999). Between 2000 and 2004, he was a Senator from the Democratic Party (PD). Vasile published poetry under the pen name Radu Mischiu.
