Sneyd Comprehensive School
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sneyd Comprehensive School is a secondary school located in Bloxwich, West Midlands, England. It was built in 1980 to serve the western part of the town, as well as the northern part of Willenhall, which had become heavily built up by this time having been almost totally rural as recently as the 1920s.
The school is situated on Vernon Way in the shadow of the M6 motorway, and is just over the border from Willenhall.
There have been many famous students, most notably Lee Naylor, the professional footballer who began his career at Wolverhampton Wanderers and currently plays for Celtic. He attended the school from 1991 until 1996.
Recently the Sneyd School Choir performed at the Royal Albert Hall , at an event called 'The Magic of Music' , organised by the Opal Foundation. They were one of two school choirs to win that night, and have won the opportunity to represent Great Britain at the 2008 Choir Olympics in Graz , Austria
The school is set to be closed in August 2012 due to continuously falling behind in exam results and ofsted reports. They entered special needs in 2005, but managed to get out of these by 2006. But continuing GCSE failings have caused Walsall Education to close the school. There are plans for it to have a merger with Frank F. Harrison Community School to cope with the falling student numbers and exam results. The Sneyd site will be used until Frank F Harrison Engineering College is able to expand to cope with the numbers of students that will be joining due to Sneyd's closure.
