The Sony Ericsson G700 is a mid-range phone in the Sony Ericsson G-series line-up. The 'G' in the model designation stands for 'Generation Web', a line-up of Web Enabled Mobile Phones[1].
The handset was announced by Sony Ericsson at the Mobile World Congress (formerly 3GSM congress) on February 10, 2008 at Barcelona Spain and is marketed as a touchscreen organizer alongside the more feature-rich G900. The phone is based from the Symbian OS 9.1 UIQ 3.0 platform with a number of interface enhancements like Touch Panel, Media Center, a touch-based music player, in addition to a renovated touch-operated camera interface. The phone houses 3G UMTS operating at 2100Mhz and Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP. The more upscale features such as Wi-Fi, auto focus and a 5 megapixels camera are reserved for the G900.

[edit] System Hardware
The Sony Ericsson G700 is powered by a 208 MHz ARM9 CPU which has been observed to run at 180 Mhz in real life. The system hardware is similar to other Sony Ericsson UIQ devices such as the P1 and W960 and the G700 has 128 megabytes of RAM to ensure very good multitasking applications and productivity in addition to 160 megabytes of internal flash memory. This can be further expanded with up to 8GB of external memory via a Memory Stick Micro (M2) slot.
[edit] Imaging and Media
The handset integrates a 3.15 megapixels sensor which does not feature auto focusing. The camera interface has been revamped for easier finger-based interaction compared with the earlier UIQ3 phones such as the P990 and P1. The phone has a built-in LED Flash which doubles as a torch when not using the camera application. The phone records video at QVGA resolution (320x240) at 30 FPS. The phone also features a media player that is similar to the Walkman software on the Sony Ericsson W960.
[edit] Reviews
The G700 has had below average reviews, with a lot of reviewers criticizing the phone for being priced too high as the better equipped G900 is in the same price bracket whilst others have lamented the fact that Sony Ericsson chose to implement the same technology that had been presented in late 2006 in the P1.[2]
