Suntech Power (Chinese: 尚德; pinyin: Shàngdé) is one of the leading solar energy company worldwide and the largest solar module manufacturer in the world[1]. Suntech is listed on the New York Stock Exchange ticker symbol STP.

It has four production sites at Wuxi, Luoyang, Qinghai and Shanghai and 8000 global employees.[citation needed]

Suntech has supplied or installed solar modules for numerous solar power plants and systems around the world. Notable installations include:

  • Alamosa Power Plant (Colorado, USA) – 8 MW
  • Arizona State University (Arizona, USA) – 1.6 MW
  • Beijing National Stadium (Beijing, China)
  • Elecnor Power Plant (Trujillo, Spain) – 35 MW

The Company's Suntech Energy Solutions division completed Google's 1.6 megawatt solar installation in June 2007.[2]

The Company joined with Israeli company Solarit Doral to build Israel's largest solar power station, a 50KW rooftop project in the northern town of Katzrin, which was connected to the electric grid in December 2008.[3][4]

Dr Shi Zhengrong (施正荣, born c.1963[5]) is the founder,[2] chairman and chief executive officer of Suntech Power.

He is a graduate of the University of NSW's School of Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering.[6][7]
