Walter Arnott

Walter Arnott (12 May 1863 – 18 May 1931) was a Scottish all-round sportsman born in Glasgow.

Arnott played for Queen's Park and the Scotland national team.
Arnott joined Queen's Park from Pollokshields Athletic F.C. in 1882 and remained with the Glasgow club until his retirement in the mid 1890s. However, he occasionally played as a guest for several other clubs including Northern Irish side Linfield - for whom he won an Irish Cup medal, Newcastle West End F.C., Notts County, St. Bernard's and Celtic.
At Queen's Park, he won the Scottish Cup three times in 1884, 1886 and 1890. He also won FA Cup runners-up medals in 1884 and 1885.
Arnott was capped 14 times by Scoland between 1883 and 1893. He also appeared in 10 consecutive matches against England - a Scottish record. His overall record against England was: - Won 3 Drawn 3 Lost 4 Goals for 14 Goals against 23. He played in the following losing matches:
On the 17th of March in 1888 at Hampden Park when England won by 5 goals to nil On the 6th of April in 1891 at Ewood Park in Blackburn when England won by 2 goals to 1 On the 2nd of April in 1892 at Ibrox Park in Glasgow when England won by 4 goals to 1 On the 1st of April in 1893 at Richmond Park in Surrey when England won by 5 goal to 2 with Fred Spiksley scoring 3 times for England in 6 second half minutes to record the 1st ever hat-trick by an Englishman against Scotland.
The Scottish Football Association honoured Walter by presenting him with a special International Cap to commemorate his achievement.

Arnott was also a noted bowls, cricket, and tennis player. He was also an avid yachtsman.
