Warschauer Straße is a S-Bahn and U-Bahn station located in the Friedrichshain locality of central Berlin, Germany.

U-Bahnhof Warschauer Straße

The U-Bahn station is the eastern terminus of the Berlin U-Bahn line U1. Opened in 1902 under the name Warschauer Brücke as one of the first stations on the network, it is an above-ground station. It is the only station of the U1 located in the eastern part of the city and was closed in 1961 following the construction of the Berlin Wall. The adjacent Stralauer Tor station was also located in the borough of Friedrichshain, but it was destroyed in 1945 and not rebuilt. The U-Bahn station was reopened on October 14, 1995 following extensive reconstruction. At the same time it was renamed Warschauer Straße in order to create uniformity with the adjacent S-Bahn station.

In the basement vaults of the building three discotheqes are located: The Matrix Club, since 1996, one of the biggest venues in Berlin with up to nine bars and five dancefloors, the Narva Lounge and the Busche.

The Berlin S-Bahn station of the same name is around 150 metres away. Unique is the third platform, added in 1986, allowing the passengers to get off the train on the left and right. The S-Bahn station has been undergoing reconstruction since 2004, the entrance building was demolished in 2005.

Both stations are known collectively as S+U Warschauer Straße. Plans call for the existing U-Bahn station to be closed and the line to be extended over a bridge to reach the S-Bahn station, to create a cruciform transfer station. However, due to the precarious financial situation in Berlin it is uncertain whether this part of the development will take place. A further 400-m extension of the U1 to intersect with the U5 at Frankfurter Tor has been planned since the U5 was being constructed in the 1920s, but is unlikely to be built in the near future.

Warschauer Straße station is located on the eponymous street named after Warsaw, on the northeastern bank of the river Spree. The Oberbaumbrücke, the East Side Gallery as well as the new O2 World arena can be reached on foot.
