[edit] Issue with the main template

The main "this article is part of WikiProject Georgia" template seems to keep articles in the unassessed and unknown-importance categories even after they're assessed. I'd mark the ones I've found manually, but then they'd be in two categories by assessment which would start to get a bit messy. BigHaz - Schreit mich an 10:51, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

I suspect that it's the same with the importance, in that the template will keep them marked as "unknown-importance" even if someone assigns an importance value. By the by, I've nicked the Greek project's assessment scale and set it up as ours (why Greece? Tamta was an article I tagged). It may well not be the best way of setting things up, but at least it's going to give people a vague conception of standards until something else comes along. [edit] Standardisation?

Hi. I've just joined this project (assuming it's still active) since I'm planning to work on a few articles about Georgian history. I'm currently preparing an article on Georgia under the Russian Empire in my sandbox, which should take care of Russian Georgia mentioned on the front page here.

One thing I've noticed when reading articles on Georgian history is that there doesn't seem to be a standard way of naming Georgian kings here, e.g. the same person is variously Erekle, Irakli and Heraclius. A project like this would be the ideal way to introduce more uniformity in such matters, which would help both readers and editors alike. Any thoughts on the matter? Cheers. --Folantin 11:54, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Film editors wanted

WikiProject Films has solicited interest in creating a Soviet/CIS cinema task force. We'd like to cordially welcome all regular editors of these articles to voice their interest in starting this task force so as to see if there is sufficient support. Many thanks! [edit] Draft Guidelines for Lists of companies by country - Feedback Requested

Within WikiProject Companies I am trying to establish guidelines for all Lists of companies by country, the implementation of which would hopefully ensure a minimum quality standard and level of consistency across all of these related but currently disparate articles. The ultimate goal is the improvement of these articles to Featured List status. As a WikiProject that currently has one of these lists within your scope, I would really appreciate your feedback! You can find the draft guidelines here. Thanks for your help as we look to build consensus and improve Wikipedia! - Richc80 (talk) 21:26, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! For the 1.0 Editorial Team, §hepBot (Disable) 21:48, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Georgia (country)

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! For the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial team, SelectionBot 22:56, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Help request: 97 Georgia-related articles needing geographical coordinates

Based on a search of Wikipedia's articles related to Georgia, I've found some articles that I believe are about places in Georgia, and could usefully have geographical coordinates added.

The articles in question are listed in Category:Georgia articles missing geocoordinate data. At the time of writing, some examples included:

  1. Chuburkhindji
  2. Gardabani (historic district)
  3. Gulripsh district
  4. Kodori River
  5. Kvemo Bargebi
  6. Machakhlistskal(i)
  7. Pankisi Gorge

...and there are many more. At the time of posting this notice, there were 97 articles in this category needing geographical coordinates.

[edit] Why add coordinates?

By adding coordinates, a Wikipedia reader can easily view the location on a street map, nautical chart, topographic map, by satellite photo, realtime weather map, and in many other ways. Coordinate data makes an article eventually appear in various services such as Google Maps' Wikipedia overlay, Google Earth, and Wikipedia's own internal map service. Coordinate data also helps readers looking for geographically-based data, such as locations near a reference point, or related information.

[edit] How can I do it?

The articles are all marked with {{coord missing}} tags, which need to be replaced with {{coord}} tags that contain the location's latitude/longitude coordinates; or you might be able to add coordinates to an existing infobox. You can find out how to do this at the Wikipedia:Geocoding how-to for WikiProject members. Please let me know if this is useful, or if you have any questions! -- The Anome (talk) 11:56, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Seeking help: Patriotic TV ad on Georgian Public Broadcasting

Can anyone help me expand on the following sufficiently to make it a worthwhile addition to some relevant article?

Back in September, I ran across a one-minute TV spot aired on Georgian Public Broadcasting. (The SCOLA satellite/cable channel airs about an hour's worth of GPB programming every day in the USA.) With some help from Georgian-speaking acquaintances, I've determined the piece includes about a dozen Georgian actors and singers urging viewers to "stand together so our country can survive", and culminating with several of them saying "მე მიყვარს საქართველო" (me miq'vars sakartvelo — "I love Georgia"). It's entirely in Georgian, so it was clearly intended for domestic consumption within the country. Depending on one's background, I imagine it could be described as anything from a "patriotic public service announcement" to a nationalistic, emotional propaganda piece.

You can see the video here on YouTube. I've assembled a set of screen shots with the people involved. My friends also helped me put together a transcript and a tentative identification of the people.

It seems to me that some mention of this piece (whatever its origin, and despite — or perhaps even because of — its obvious biases) might be appropriate in the "Protests regarding 2008 South Ossetia war" article. However, I think I should try to find some more background info — such as who produced it, whether it's been shown frequently or just a few times, whether it's still being aired at all, etc. I've tried asking people at several official places in Georgia, but no one has ever replied to me. I also tried asking on the talk page for the above article, but without success.

Any help here would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks. Richwales (talk) 04:04, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Help needed with Transcaucasian SFSR

Could someone please add the English transliteration for the Georgian name of this "prehistoric" Soviet republic in this section? Many thanks. --Zlerman (talk) 05:24, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 05:30, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Challenge to "PD-GE-exempt" template for images

See "WP:Possibly unfree images/2009 March 11#File:Paata Burchuladze singing Tavisupleba.jpg". A copyright violation challenge being made to this image may be turning into a general challenge to the {{PD-GE-exempt}} template. The originator of the challenge mentions problems with using images of the Kremlin — despite an essentially identically worded {{PD-RU-exempt}} template — and is insisting that we need to get explicit written permission even when using material which is conceded to be an official work of the Georgian government. Richwales (talk) 16:18, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Article alerts

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Message sent by User:Addbot to all active wiki projects per request, Comments on the message and bot are welcome here.

Thanks. — Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 09:11, 15 March, 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Need copyright help regarding "PD-GE-exempt" template for images

I brought this up a few weeks ago, but no one responded, so let me try again . . . .

See WP:Possibly unfree files/2009 March 11#File:Paata Burchuladze singing Tavisupleba.jpg. A copyright violation challenge was made to this image (cropped from a screen shot of what I understand is an "official" music video of Georgia's national anthem), alleging that the {{PD-GE-exempt}} copyright exemption was being interpreted too broadly. The originator of the challenge insisted that explicit written approval needed to be obtained in essentially any case involving {{PD-GE-exempt}}, even when using material which is conceded to be an official work of the Georgian government. This could make it totally impossible to use any material at all via this exemption, since (in my own experience at least) attempts to get any sort of comment on this sort of thing from Georgian government officials have always gone unanswered. Does anyone here have any thoughts or insights on this topic? Richwales (talk) 21:45, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Proposed Renaming of 2008 South Ossetia war

Good day, everyone! I would just like to let everyone know that currently, there is a discussion underway at Talk:2008 South Ossetia war#Requested move about a renaming of the article from its current name ("2008 South Ossetia war") to "Russia-Georgia war" or "Russian-Georgian war". This discussion seems to be spending literally more space on Russia's war guilt, or absence thereof, than what English-speakers actually call this war!

A similar discussion already occurred about two to three months ago, during which an extraordinarily slim majority of users (the final tally was 24-23, although one user voted for both sides) defeated the proposed renaming. However, the renaming proposal was brought back up, as some individuals feel that a new consensus has appeared, while other users believe that the consensus has not changed since the last polling.

I hope that the input from this project will help get the discussion back on track, so that the improvement of this article, which your project considers to be of Top Importance, will swiftly continue. And personally, I don't really care what we call the war, as long as we consider our readers in the process. Thank you, and happy editing! Laurinavicius (talk) 02:09, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
